10 Things You Should Know About Green Gate
10 Things You Should Know
Proudly
Quirky.
We make eco catering disposables. But we think a little differently about what that means.
We started because someone had to.
Catering disposables have always been a bit grim — think polystyrene clamshells and plastic cutlery that outlives civilisations. We started Green Gate because the catering world deserved better, and frankly, so did the planet.
"Disposable" doesn't have to mean disposable planet.
Every box, plate, cup and tray we sell is designed to do its job beautifully — then disappear responsibly. Compostable, recyclable, or both. We check the credentials properly so you don't have to.
We read the small print so you don't have to.
"Eco-friendly" is one of the most abused phrases in the industry. We don't slap a leaf on something and call it done. Every product is verified against real standards — EN13432, FSC, BPI — before it earns a place in our range.
We sell to caterers, not marketing departments.
Our products are built for real-world kitchens — busy, chaotic, understaffed. They need to stack, not leak, hold heat, and look good on the pass. Pretty and purposeful. Non-negotiable.
Yes, we're acutely aware of the irony.
A packaging company that cares about packaging. We think about this more than most. Which is exactly why our transit packaging is minimal, our packing materials are paper-based, and we're always looking for the next step down.
Doing the right thing shouldn't cost the earth.
We're not going to pretend eco is always cheaper — it isn't, yet. But we work hard to keep margins honest and volumes smart. The goal is a range where choosing green isn't a luxury, it's just good buying.
We ask our suppliers uncomfortable questions.
Where does the sugarcane come from? Is the bamboo certified? What happens at end of life in the UK's actual composting infrastructure — not just in theory? We probe because greenwashing often hides in the answers nobody asks for.
We pick up the phone. Actual humans, actual answers.
Not a chatbot. Not a ticket number. If you need to talk product specs, minimum order quantities or whether our bagasse plates hold up to a hot curry — we genuinely enjoy that conversation.
We want to make ourselves redundant.
The best outcome for us is a world where eat-in replaces takeaway, reusables are the norm, and disposables are genuinely the last resort. Until that world arrives, we'll keep making the best version of the necessary option.
We'll never stop trying to do better.
Not a marketing tagline. A standing instruction to ourselves. The range improves, the certifications get stricter, the targets move. That's not a problem — that's the point. You won't catch us coasting.
